Ocean Springs

We went to the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast Saturday and had lunch with two of our sons.
Had a wonderful time.

It's finally rebuilding after Katrina.

Little Pete gave us this beautiful ruby red vase for our ruby anniversary.

And the other handbag I ordered from Diane at http://dianesdreamdesigns.blogspot.com/
arrived in the mail!

I had to fight this little cowgirl, Alyssa, for it!
She said when I opened it-What is that, a bag, I don't have a bag, you didn't buy me a bag?, I need a bag!!
She's as spoiled as Wilma!

I came across this old photo last week of my daddy when he was in elementary school. His is standing about middle of the picture wearing overalls. Freckles all over his face, a one room schoolhouse. He grew up in a log cabin.

He left home as a teenager, joined the army and fought in Korea, came back and went to work for the railroad for the rest of his life. He was hurt in a train accident when I was small, and he spent the whole year recuperating, refinishing an old piano for me. He was a deacon in church, got baptised the same night as me, a 3rd Degree Mason, a Shriner, drove the bus taking burn victims to the children's hospital for treatment after he retired, raised 5 kids, and took good care of his home and everyone in his family. We lost him 2 years ago to cancer.
He was the best dad.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY, DADDY
Love, from Dorothy

A wonderful piece about your Dad, Dorothy! I am so glad that my Dad is still here, and hope that to be the case for many more years. He turned 70 in January.

Happy Father's Day to your dad, too.

A beautiful tribute - I'm afraid they don't make them like your Father anymore. I've never been to the Gulf Coast - hopefully someday - it looks beautiful. Alyssa is a stunner :)

That is a very neat photo of your Dad and his school. What a different life they led back then. Alyssa sure is a cutie! The wristlets are a perfect size for sweet girls her age! I'm so glad you like them, Dorothy! It means a lot to me. And it's nice to see new photos of the MS Gulf coast. Enjoy your day! We're off for a little drive in a bit! Hugs!

Nice tribute to your father. My father has been gone for 15 years now and I still miss him.
Love the photo of the lighthouse.

There's nothing more precious than looking into our parents' pasts. Such a neat picture...I had to enlarge it to find your dad, but I'm sure I found the right one. It's kind of bittersweet to think of all those young faces and know that a lot of them may be gone. Thank you for sharing it.

What a lovely story about your dad. It is so sweet of you to honor him this way. He sounds like a great man. I just love that picture! He looks so cute! And Alyssa has such a grin on her face! She is a doll! Thanks for sharing the pictures from the Gulf Coast.
Blessings,
Susie

Your Daddy sounds so wonderful, I wish you would write a book about him. I'll just bet that you could.
I know how badly that area of Mississippi was hit by Katrina, I hope it is coming back.
Love the ruby vase for your Ruby Anniversary!

Thank you, Jane. You would love the Gulf, the sea breeze was blowing warm off the salt water, and it wasn't too hot, yet. It felt wonderful.

Thanks Diane, I may have to break down and get her one, too! Alyssa is my niece, but she stays with me a lot and I enjoy her so much. Hope you had a good drive Sunday!

Hi Tracey, thank you. After Katrina, I wasn't sure the Mississippi coast would be able to recover, the devistation was so bad. It really is starting to look beautiful again.

Thanks Shirley, you either saw dad or his big brother, they looked just alike! :) We posted that picture on our genealogy facebook page here at the library, and lots of people started recognizing their ancestors in the group!

You should take a ride down, Ramona! We had a wonderful day, and ate some good seafood. They wouldn't let me stop and drop twenty in the one-armed bandits, though!! :)

Thanks Susie. Dads are always big men in the eyes of their little girls, and I was definately a daddie's girl! My mother was very pretty and my sisters both took after her. Whenever someone met me, they always said You look just like your dad! (Freckles and all!) But I never seemed to mind! :)

Well, thanks Kay! It probably would read like a Rick Bragg novel! :)

Or, I should say a Rick Bragg memoir!

hey, thanks so much for visiting me and entering my giveaway! I've spent far too long over here!!! loving reading your 'about me' and looking through your recent posts. (I miss my Dad too)
I especially loved reading about your boys...what a handsome happy looking bunch. Mine are still small - although #1 has just overtaken me in height so growing fast. And 40 years married? good work. We celebrate 20 years very soon and hope we are still happy and healthy in a further 20.
Off to follow you so I don't miss anything else....fee x
