Language of Flowers

Purity
Daylily-Three blooms on one stem.

Love
Peace Rose-This is one of the most reliable, consistent of roses. Needs practically no attention, just a little Miracle Grow and water. Heavily scented.

Another Peace Rose, blooms more yellow than pink.

My beautiful Dothan had to come and pose for his portrait.

Kordes Perfecta

This is not an easy rose to grow: but when it is grown well, this rose lives up to its name-perfection.
I've had this rose for 13 years and moved it around a few times. It still performs well. Likes sun.
This is in our front yard.

Red Knock-Out Roses
Indestructible, prolific, but not one of my favorites because they have no scent.
This is beside my front steps and we have to keep cutting it back it grows so fast.

Love
This rose is simply named 'Love'.  One of the trio of Jackson & Perkins 1980 AARS winners, 'Love, Honor and Cherish'.  I like this rose, it has medium-sized flowers in crimson and white bicolor. The bicolor holds for the life of the flower.

A new Begonia for my front porch. My grandmother always loved her beefsteak begonias. I believe they are easy to propagate. I'll have to try it.

I'm picking baskets full of squash from our vegetable garden.

Zephirin Drouhin

I have two of these planted on the new arbor, but mine aren't blooming yet. This is a thornless, raspberry scented running rose, a favorite of mine.

I recommend you check your local library for Gertrude Jekyll's lovely book "Roses For English Gardens".

My son, Jeremy, gave me this orchid last year for Mother's Day and it started blooming again this Mother's Day. I have it in the library beside an artificial pink orchid. They both look real!

Good lighting from this window.

I put flowers on my new wall collage I put up yesterday in my living room.

I changed out some plates, put in some hens in place of roosters next to my china cabinet.

And of course, played with Ms. Wilma.

I hope your weekend and this following week is filled with Joy and Love,
Go outside and plant something.
from me and Wilma

This is the party I'm linking with today: http://www.anoregoncottage.com/

I do to, Athena. I had to cut mine way back when my husband moved them and they have not bloomed yet, but they are putting on new growth. It has a light, sweet scent when it blooms and I'm partial to pink roses.

Thanks, Denise.

Thank you Sally, and isn't that a nice book?

Hi Leslie,
Ms Wilma says thank you very much.
I loved your pic of your little mouses on your piano keyboard! I, too, used to teach piano at my home, but I just don't have the time or patience anymore! I still play at church some, though. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks, Tracie
I think you will be pleased with your Zephirin Drouhin, it's low maintenance and a fast grower.

You have such a lovely blog. Gardening, plants and furnishings. Just what I like. I've seen Never operate the flavor of the daylily. The Peace roses I've seen looks different. Maybe they have different names in different countries. A very good book I can recommend is the Vita Sackville-West The Illustrated Garden Book. A New Anthology by Robin Lane Fox. It's about the garden for a whole year. There are many roses in June and July! I wish you a wonderful weekend! Zinnia

Your roses are just stunning. And I really like the colour of the daylily in the first pic.
I thought the message you left on my blog was just perfect "it came to pass, it didn't come to stay!" I was telling husband about it when we were out this morning, and said to him that at least we knew the hassle we were having wouldn't go on forever. Would you believe when we got home the insurers contacted us, and everything was sorted out in our favour.

Unknown said...

Wonderful news, Tracey! My co-worker who is also a pastor always tells us that here at work whenever we have problems of any kind! It helps me to remember that, sometimes.

Unknown said...

Hi Zinnia,
thanks for the book tip, I will look it up! And I loved your flowers, too!

Hi Dorothy,

I just found your message in my spam box (for some reason it wasn't send to my regular inbox), so I'm very sorry I react to your comment so late! I never check my spam box, that's why.

I love it that you grew up in the same place Hank Williams Sr did!! I would love to hear him play and sing in that local joints you are talking about in your comment on my blog, but of course it's much too late for that. Too bad. Instead of seeing him play for real, I visited his grave in Montgomery a couple of years ago. I was making a road trip through some of the southern states (I'm from the Netherlands myself), and seeing his grave was very impressive, also because I wanted to do that for such a long time!

Thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving such a nice comment! I'm so sorry I didn't react before, but I just saw it now.

Hi Liz
Wow, you came all the way from the Netherlands to Alabama!
I always thought it was cool that dad used to see Hank in the juke joints way back in the 50's!
Good to hear from you! :)

Those flowers are gorgeous!!!! Your hens have inspired me. I think I will start purchasing hens for my mother's kitchen. She has roosters all over but I think she needs to break up the monotony with some lovely hens.
